Why Should I Get My Car Battery Checked?

When you turn the key in the ignition of your Ford, the car battery sends a powerful surge of electricity to the starter. The starter then turns over the engine, allowing your Ford to take you where you need to go. But, like all batteries, car batteries don't last forever. They slowly lose their ability to hold a charge. After some time has passed, your car battery will eventually be unable to hold enough charge to send sufficient current to the starter. This will leave you stranded and in need of a jump start. This is obviously better avoided, which is why we recommend having your car's battery checked regularly. At Bluebonnet Ford, we can tell roughly how much life the battery has left.

Other Sources of Battery Trouble

If your battery can still hold a charge, there's a good chance it's not getting enough electricity in the first place. This could be due to a bad alternator, battery terminal corrosion, or loose battery cable connections. It could also be that you're taking too many short trips without enough longer ones. Your alternator needs time to recharge the battery, and trips that are under 15 minutes don't always give the battery enough time to recharge.

How Often Does My Car Battery Need To Be Checked?

Car batteries tend to last between three to four years, though batteries can sometimes last five years. When your battery is nearing the three-year mark, regular battery checks can help. Lots of heat is bad for batteries, so you should have your battery checked sooner if you park outside.
